A rare colony of crested cow-wheat in Ailsworth has flourished for four decades after a warden collected seeds from a declining population in the 1980s. By relocating the plants to an area with active ant populations and managed grazing, the warden ensured the survival of this hemiparasitic species in a region where it remains a rarity.
