Stonehenge's 5km prototype site predates solstice alignment by 500 years
Archaeologists have uncovered an ancient structure 5km from Stonehenge that could change our understanding of the site's history. Radiocarbon dating places the find at 5,000 years old, showing evidence of a solstice alignment 500 years before the stones at Stonehenge were aligned. This suggests early communities in the area were using astronomical knowledge to mark the solstice long before the iconic monument took its current form.
