Researchers at Heriot-Watt University have developed a blood test that identifies sepsis pathogens in six hours, significantly faster than the days required by current laboratory methods. By detecting microbial DNA directly, the test could provide doctors with the early information needed to treat the condition before it progresses to organ failure.
