Rare Battle of Trafalgar flag saved for display in Newcastle
A Union flag flown from HMS Royal Sovereign during the Battle of Trafalgar has been secured for the nation by North East Museums. The flag, which features battle scars from the 1805 conflict, is linked to Newcastle-born Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood and the hundreds of local sailors who served under him. It will now be permanently housed at the Discovery Museum, preserving a significant piece of maritime history for the region.
