The United States has agreed to transfer the masts of the SS Richard Montgomery, a Second World War shipwreck off the Isle of Sheppey, to the UK following a local campaign. The masts were originally scheduled to be removed as part of a salvage operation, but will now be preserved for public display - ensuring a piece of local maritime history remains on the island.
