Community group aims to buy Parton Kirk to honour scientist James Clerk Maxwell
The village of Parton is working to purchase its local church, which houses the grave of physicist James Clerk Maxwell, to prevent it from being sold on the open market. Residents have until 1 November to raise £50,000 to transform the building into a science and community centre, preserving the legacy of the man whose work enabled modern technologies like radio and mobile phones.
