Rectal cancer trial co-led by University of Leeds offers patients an alternative to major surgery
Patients with early-stage rectal cancer have been able to avoid major surgery and permanent stomas after participating in the international STAR-TREC trial. By using combinations of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, researchers found that four in five participants were able to preserve their rectum - offering a potential new standard of care for those diagnosed with the disease.
