Researchers have identified 17 manuscript fragments dating from the 12th to 15th centuries that were repurposed as book bindings in the 16th century. These texts reveal that medieval islanders read a variety of works in French, providing the first evidence of a sophisticated literary culture on Guernsey during the Middle Ages.
