A five-year study of over 3,400 primary school children has found that lung growth improved after the introduction of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone in 2019. By comparing children in London to those in Luton, researchers identified a link between reduced local emissions and better respiratory development, offering evidence that clean air zones can help mitigate pollution-related health risks in childhood.
