Conservationist Dr Dave Wainwright has located a population of the dark bordered beauty moth at the National Trust’s Wallington Estate, the first time the species has been seen there in 70 years. As the only other known English colony in North Yorkshire faces decline, this new site provides a vital lifeline for the species and suggests they may be able to thrive in a wider range of habitats.
