The National Trust and United Utilities are installing 137 leaky dams across the Stubbins Estate near Ramsbottom to slow the flow of rainwater from the moors. By capturing and gradually releasing high-velocity run-off, the project aims to reduce flood risks for communities downstream while improving water quality in the River Irwell.
