Volunteers clear thousands of plastic nurdles from Whitley Bay beach
After a shipping collision on the River Tyne released plastic pellets into the water, over one hundred volunteers have gathered at Whitley Bay to remove the debris from the sand. By using sieves and mesh bags to collect the nurdles, the community is working to prevent the plastic from entering the local food chain and harming coastal wildlife.
