A local supporter has purchased the Culand Pits for £320,000 and donated the land to the Kent Wildlife Trust, securing the site's future against potential development. The former chalk pits are home to significant Cretaceous-era fossils and have become a haven for modern biodiversity since industrial work ceased in the early 20th century.
