After a 22-season career that saw him contribute to all 28 of the Newcastle Eagles' major title wins, 41-year-old Darius Defoe is to receive the Honorary Freedom of Newcastle. The honour recognises his long-standing influence on the city, where he has become a fixture through his work with local schools and youth engagement programmes.
