Newborn screening for spinal muscular atrophy to be rolled out across England
Following a campaign led by Jesy Nelson, the NHS will begin testing all newborns for spinal muscular atrophy from October 2026. This early detection allows for life-saving treatment to be administered before symptoms develop, ensuring infants across the country have access to the same standard of care regardless of their location.
