Hillsborough Law passes final Commons stage to ensure public accountability
The Public Office (Accountability) Bill has cleared its final House of Commons hurdle, introducing a legal duty of candour for public officials and ensuring equal legal representation for bereaved families at inquests. Named in honour of the 97 Liverpool fans killed in 1989, the law aims to prevent state cover-ups by requiring transparency during investigations and inquiries.
