Newcastle-based rail firm Lumo carries record 772 passengers on single service
Lumo has transported 772 passengers on a single intercity train between London, Newcastle and Edinburgh, setting a new record for the operator. By using a ten-carriage electric service instead of domestic flights, the journey saved approximately 189 tonnes of CO₂e, highlighting the potential for rail to serve as a high-capacity, lower-carbon alternative for long-distance travel.
