London Zoo has installed a permanent 53ft mosaic of an Ethiopian mountain adder to honour Joan Procter, one of the UK's pioneering reptile experts. The artwork, created by British artist Linder, marks the Zoological Society of London's 200th anniversary and recognises Procter's work in transforming reptile care and public understanding in the 1920s. Designed after researching Procter's life, the mosaic gives overdue recognition to a scientist who died at 34 but left a lasting impact on her field.
