Volunteer Michael Scurr discovered a rare 'Exeter printing' of the US Declaration of Independence while cataloguing 18th-century naval records in Kew. The document, which was seized from an American privateer ship in 1776, is the only known copy outside the United States and offers a new perspective on how news of the declaration reached the British Admiralty.
