John and Joan Gaffney from Huyton met as young workers at the Speke Meccano factory and have spent 70 years together since their wedding on July 21, 1956. Now 92 and 90 respectively, they still enjoy regular outings for coffee and a sausage roll. Joan recalls how John, then 22, asked her out while she was covered in red paint, and the rest, as they say, is history.
