New research from UWE Bristol shows that eight and nine-year-olds who find reading challenging are more likely to pick up a book for pleasure if it aligns with their personal hobbies, such as football or Lego. By prioritising choice and access to books that match individual interests, schools can help more children develop a lasting habit of reading for enjoyment.
