The Hylton Castle Trust has applied for permission to extend the building's lift shaft to the rooftop level, which is currently only reachable by a stone spiral staircase. This change would allow visitors with mobility challenges and young children to access the viewing gallery, supporting the site's role as an inclusive community hub.
