Louise McDowell from Hebburn has passed her boat licence exam to become a qualified Shields Ferry skipper. She hopes her achievement will inspire more women to consider careers in traditionally male-dominated maritime roles. Louise, 45, now has the skills to captain both the Pride of the Tyne and Spirit of the Tyne ferries.
