Record breeding success for hazel dormice at wildlife sanctuary
A wildlife sanctuary in Kent has had its most successful breeding season for hazel dormice, with 29 young born and set to be released into the wild. The centre uses a 'dating agency' system to carefully pair the animals and maintain genetic diversity. The species has declined by 70% in the UK since 2000 and is at risk of extinction.
